During
Game 1 of the 1992 NBA Finals against Portland,
Jordan set a Finals record at the time with 6 three-pointers
in a half. It was the shrug to Marv and Magic, after
effortlessly hitting the 6th three, that sealed
this as one of the greatest moments in NBA history.
Jordan finished with 39 points in a 122-89 blowout
of the Blazers.
Jordan's
first encounter against the Chicago Bulls, after
returning to the NBA as a member of the Wizards,
would be a memorable one. With a game-high 29 points
and the lead, the 38 year old MJ would get his shot
partially blocked in the final seconds, giving the
Bulls hope as Ron Mercer jumped out on a fast break.
As Mercer was about to lay the ball in, Jordan appeared
and wouldn't merely just block the shot, but pin
the ball against the backboard with both hands and
bring it down. Preserving the Wizards' 89-83 win,
January 4th 2002.
A lot of people like to forget about Jordan's 2
seasons with the Wizards, but he still had some
great moments there. It was a true testament to
his love of the game, and his competitive spirit.
"I can accept failure, but I can't accept not
trying"
Always
a highlight moment, and declared Jordan's greatest
move in the Ultimate Jordan DVD set, the triple
pump circus layup against the New Jersey Nets on
February 17th, 1991. Showcasing MJ's incredible
hang-time, as he moves the ball right, left, and
down around defenders before finally throwing it
off the glass on the other side of the basket.
NBA
Playoffs Commercial recreated with NBA 2K11. Now,
you might be asking "Why Matt?" haha.
I just did the 1996 Finals moment for the "What
Is Love" video, and I've been seeing this commercial
everyday, so I thought "what the hell".
Didn't take long to put together, and it was pretty
fun to do as well. Back to our regularly scheduled
programming after this.
Michael
Jordan Nike commercial recreation. This is the abbreviated
version of the 4+ minute "Love Supreme"
commercial that ran during Jordan's final season
in the NBA, I opted for the 30 second ad to keep
my sanity haha. Couple new shots thrown in with
the classic moments I've already recreated.
In
honor of the Bulls finishing off the Hawks, we go
back 14 years ago today, May 13th, 1997. In the
opening minutes during Game 5 of the 1997 Eastern
Conference Semifinals against the Hawks, Jordan
finally got his dunk on Mount Mutombo and gave Dikembe
his own signature finger wave. Chicago won the game
and clinched the series, 4-1.
With
the 1997 NBA Finals tied at 2 games a piece, Michael
Jordan overcame a stomach virus to lift the Bulls
past the Jazz in Game 5. Finishing with 38 points,
7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. I've
only done this one once before, in 2K9. It took
me a while to get to it because I didn't want to
just rehash my 2K9 version. It wasn't until I decided
to put that music to it that everything fell into
place, and allowed me to really tell the story behind
the game.
Another
fantastic Michael Jordan Nike/Jumpman commercial
recreated in NBA 2K11. A lot of work went into this
one, as I had to replace the background for every
shot. Mostly because I wanted lower angles that
aren't possible with the replay camera, so I was
able to just give the illusion of a lower angle
by removing the court floor in those shots. Even
the free throw line dunk had to have the background
removed, since you can't get that angle in Practice
Mode, I had to do it with a full crowd behind him.
Please 2K, give the replay camera some more flexibility
in 2K12, haha.
Michael
Jordan Nike Commercial remade using NBA 2K11. This
is a recreation of my 2K10 version (so, a recreation
of a reimagining of a Nike commercial to be exact,
ha). I went with the same moments that I chose for
the original because they fit so well with the audio,
a couple heartbreaking moments for all MJ fans.
The steal in Orlando, Game 1 of the 1995 Eastern
Conference Semifinals - and Game 4 of the 1998 Eastern
Conference Finals against the Pacers, where Michael's
potential game winner rolled out. We finish off,
of course, with his Last Shot as a member of the
Chicago Bulls in the 1998 NBA Finals.
Game
4 of the 1993 Eastern Conference Semifinals saw
Jordan once again drain the shot at the buzzer to
eliminate the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Playoffs.
This time hitting the game winner over "The
Jordan Stopper" Gerald Wilkins.
MJ
always thrived when playing in Madison Square Garden.
Featured here is Jordan's First Game at MSG in 1984,
The Posterizing Dunk on Ewing in 1991, The 55 Point
Comeback in 1995, and his Last Game at MSG as a
member of the Chicago Bulls in 1998. As well as
a couple other moments sprinkled in.
Game
3 in the 1st Round of the 1991 NBA Playoffs brought
about one of Jordan's signature moments. With under
a minute to go in the first half, Jordan escaped
the smothering D of Starks & Oakley, then dunked
right over Patrick Ewing for the basket and the
foul. The Bulls went on to win the game and knock
off the Knicks, on the way to their first Championship.
Michael
Jordan Nike (Air Jordan XXI) commercial re-created
in NBA 2K11. I've had my eye on this one from the
start, I just had to work up to it by doing all
the classic moments depicted in it first. And no,
I never once considered trying to make little kid
CAPs to do this with... perhaps a little nod to
that by slipping Muggsy Bogues in there though haha.
Michael
Jordan's last shot as a member of the Chicago Bulls,
defeating the Utah Jazz in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA
Finals to capture his 6th and final NBA Championship,
re-created in NBA 2K11. This is one I've done every
year in one form or another. I know people will
ask "where's the push-off?", the left
hand swipe I used to simulate that for 2K9 and 10
was removed from the step-back animation this year.
So I knew I had to at least get Russell to fall
this time.
Michael
Jordan hits "The Shot" over Ehlo, eliminating
the Cavs from the first round of the 1989 NBA Playoffs.
Re-created in NBA 2K11. This is one I've been wanting
to do again since 2K8, I've been waiting for the
short shorts and we finally got it. Funny enough
though, the famous jump celebration is in the long
shorts, since the only way I could get that animation
was from "The Last Dance" Challenge.
Michael
Jordan Nike commercial re-created in NBA 2K11. Much
like my "Look Me In The Eyes" video, I
had to take the audio and match the video to it's
context, since the ad featured no game footage.
I was able to recreate the first two shots though,
with some help from Google Earth's 3D buildings
of Chicago. And inspired by the recent mashup of
this and the "What should I do?" ad, I
had to throw LeBron James in there at the end.
Michael
Jordan Nike commercial re-created in NBA 2K11. This
one has been requested a lot, and I was still in
the commercial-making mood :) I could've kept all
the reaction shots inside the arena, but I thought
I would have a little fun with it by dusting off
my copy of GTA IV for those. Even Niko loves Jordan!
haha.
"23
vs 39" Michael Jordan Gatorade commercial re-created
using NBA 2K11. I initially thought I wouldn't be
able to do this again in 2K11 because some of the
animations I used in the 2K10 one were gone, but
I found some workarounds, including playing one
in reverse. I took a "Where Amazing Happens"
approach to the final scene in the seats, which
allowed me to get a closer look to the original,
right down to the towel and gadorade bottles.
Michael Jordan with his signature no-look over the
head layup against the Knicks, in several 3D angles.
The 3D was achieved in replay mode by recording
one view, then shifting to a slightly different
view to replicate the left and right eye. Not through
the official 3D capability coming to the PS3 version
this month, so dynamic physics like jersey movement
don't match up perfectly here.
The above embed is in Cross-Eyed 3D format. All
you have to do for that is cross your eyes until
both images merge in the middle and your vision
locks onto it.
If you're having trouble, pause the video once the
first image appears (keep your mouse over the pause
button so you can resume once you've locked onto
the 3D). Now take your index finger and place the
tip against your monitor - right under the image,
between the two pics. Slowly move your finger towards
your face, focusing on it but also paying attention
as the 2 images merge closer and closer as you bring
your finger to your face. Once the images merge
into one you should be able to look up and be fixed
on the 3D. You should now see 3 screens, the one
in the middle is the 3D and there's also one on
each side, don't pay attention to those. Also know
that the farther away you are from your monitor,
the less you have to cross your eyes, which should
make it easier.
Try watching it a couple times and focusing on different
things.
"The
Shrug" in the style of the NBA's "Where
Will Amazing Happen This Year" campaign. I
know everyone has and will be recreating this moment
in the game so I decided to use it for this annual
video, which has that little unique spin on it.
Another
year, another "Where Amazing Happens"
video to kick it off. I did some late changes in
what photos to do once I got the game, I noticed
they captured Jordan's yell from after he posterized
Mourning so I wanted to feature that. Of course,
Mourning was a casualty of losing the all-decade
teams, 2K10 Zo makes an appearance.
