Side by side comparison between the original Gatorade
commercial and my re-creation. A couple things had
to be changed from the original commercial, like
old MJ's uniform, the court, and a couple wide angle
shots that aren't possible to get in the practice
arena's replay mode.
Have you heard? ESPN is reporting that 2K11
might have Jordan on the cover and in the game
along with other classic players! If everything
gets finalized we should see the reveal at E3 next
month. I don't know if I can bring myself to do
anymore videos with 2K10, knowing we might be getting
the real deal in 2K11. And if what ESPN is reporting
turns out to be true, THANK YOU 2K!
I'm continuing to expand my rosters, and when I'm
all done I'll upload it to 2K Share. Just added
91-93 & 96-98 thumbs for the Rockets and Spurs.
As well as 91-93 Jazz.
It's that time again where we start to look forward
to the next installment of NBA 2K, and we all have
ideas on what would make the game better for our
own personal experience. Here's a couple of mine...
Making Michael Jordan
the NBA Logo
Last year there was a lot of discussion
about replacing the NBA logo's silhouette of Jerry
West with Michael Jordan, specifically the Jumpman
logo. But such a drastic change would never work,
the NBA logo is too iconic and recognizable. But
what if you kept the same pose while changing the
player? That's what I set out to do, morphing Jerry
West into Michael Jordan...
NBA2K10:
The Shot II
Game 4 of the 1993 Eastern Conference
Semifinals saw Jordan once again drain the shot
at the buzzer to eliminate the Cleveland Cavaliers
from the Playoffs. This time hitting the game winner
over "The Jordan Stopper" Gerald Wilkins.
I wanted to use the Bulls radio broadcast call of
the play, but could never find it in full without
music playing over it, unfortunately. Side note:
I like how you can read Ehlo's lips as he agonizes
"Come On!" haha
CAP Updates, Full Roster Thumbnails
I've been refining and changing my
Jordan CAPs with basically every video, but never
got around to updating the formula on here until
now. That means new photos and 3D for my 91-93
and 96-98
Jordans. I've also expanded the 2K10
CAP page with thumbnails for my entire roster.
Some teams only have a starting 5, while others
are fleshed out a bit more. You can check out my
custom Seattle SuperSonics as well.
NBA2K:
Become Legendary
Michael Jordan career retrospective
using clips from my 2K8, 2K9, and 2K10 videos. Going
in reverse from the 1998 NBA Finals to his rookie
game in New York. I used the latest iterations for
moments I've recreated a couple times, so if you
see a 2K8 video that means I haven't remade it,
same for 2K9 moments I haven't done in 2K10. Mixed
in a couple "Where Amazing Happens" shots,
but added live backgrounds so they fit in better.
NBA2K10:
"Failure" Nike Commercial
The original commercial is just Jordan
arriving at the arena, but to bring it into 2K10
I decided to recreate a couple heartbreaking moments
for all MJ fans. The Steal in Orlando, Game 1 of
the 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals - and Game
4 of the 1998 Eastern Conference Finals against
the Pacers, where Michael's potential game winner
rolled out. We finish off, of course, with his Last
Shot as a member of the Chicago Bulls in the 1998
NBA Finals.
NBA2K10:
Michael Jordan in New York
MJ always thrived when playing in
Madison Square Garden. Featured here is Jordan's
First Game at MSG in 1984, The Posterizing Dunk
on Ewing in 1991, The 55 Point Comeback in 1995,
and his Last Game at MSG as a member of the Chicago
Bulls in 1998.
NBA2K10:
Jordan Posterizes Mutombo
In the opening minutes during Game
5 of the 1997 Conference Semifinals, Jordan finally
got his dunk on Mount Mutombo and gave Dikembe his
own signature finger wave. Chicago won the game
and clinched the series, 4-1.
2K10 unfortunately doesn't have those great Hawks
uniforms, so I had to go with these ones. The give
and go with Luc was extremely difficult to set up.
2 things would happen, either Jordan would stop
to catch the ball, or it would lead him too far
under the basket. I finally got the play with a
contact dunk on Mutombo, but never could get Luc
to throw a bounce pass.
NBA2K10:
Jordan's Game Winner
Sound familiar? This is not a re-creation
of an actual moment, but rather a remake of my very
first video from 2K8. I updated it a little bit,
but the concept is the same. Kobe sure defends the
shot a lot better this time haha.
NBA2K10:
Jordan vs Jordan
"23 vs 39" Gatorade Commercial
Re-creation. A couple things had to be changed from
the original commercial, like old MJ's uniform,
the court, and a couple wide angle shots that aren't
possible to get in the practice arena's replay mode.
The real commercial thankfully had no music, so
I put the "Where Will Amazing Happen This Year"
song into it, which I think compliments it beautifully.
NBA2K10:
Jordan Posterizes Mourning
Michael Jordan jams over Alonzo Mourning.
The exclamation on a 52 point game, that saw the
Bulls defeat the Hornets 123-108 - March 12th, 1993.
NBA2K10:
Jordan Over Divac
Down by 2 with 10.9 seconds left
in Game 3 of the 1991 NBA Finals, Michael Jordan
drains the clutch jumpshot to tie the game and send
it into overtime; Where the Bulls outscored the
Lakers 12 to 4 and took a 2-1 series lead.
As for new videos, I've got my eye on a moment I
haven't done before. Hopefully have it finished
sometime next week.

On ESPN2's SportsNation
The Shrug, Jordan Posterizes Ewing,
and The Move shown on ESPN2's SportsNation - December
9th, 2009. This was part of their Fanish or Foolish
segment. The question that goes along with it is
pretty silly, but very cool to have my videos on
ESPN2 nonetheless! Thanks SportsNation!
NBA2K10:
The Shrug
Jordan sets a Finals record with
6 three-pointers in a half, during game 1 of the
1992 NBA Finals against Portland. Finishing with
39 points in a 122-89 blowout of the Blazers.
I decided to show all 6 threes this time, to help
payoff the shrug a bit more. Then chose a block
of time before the shrug to do in real time, including
the fast break putback dunk. Which by the way, in
Pippen's defense wasn't wide open haha, but there
were more important factors to work in than getting
that defended.
NBA2K10:
Where Will Amazing Happen This Year?
Jordan's Last Shot as a member of
the Chicago Bulls, during game 6 of the 1998 NBA
Finals, in the style of the NBA's "Where Will
Amazing Happen This Year?" Commercials.
NBA2K10:
Jordan Posterizes Ewing
Game 3 in the 1st Round of the 1991
NBA Playoffs brought about one of Jordan's signature
moments. With under a minute to go in the first
half, Jordan escaped the smothering D of Starks
& Oakley, then dunked right over Patrick Ewing
for the basket and the foul. The Bulls went on to
win the game and knock off the Knicks, on the way
to their first Championship.
Marv's "Jordan trying to shake off Starks,
Oh what a move by Jordan!" is a classic ingrained
in the minds of all Jordan fans, but I also love
the excitement from Johnny Red Kerr, so I had to
use both versions...
GameTrailers User Movie Of The Week
Big thanks to GameTrailers.com for selecting "He
Is Now Back" as the
User Movie of the Week! Thanks to Operations Sports
as well, who have
been featuring my vids in their main section, I
appreciate the support!
NBA2K10: Jordan Posterizes Ewing is coming up next!
Look for it to be up
Monday in TWO versions, YouTube will have Marv Albert's
commentary and
GameTrailers will have Johnny Red Kerr's!
Bulls CAPs Now up on 2K Share (Xbox 360)
I'm not sure if the PS3 has it's
own group or if these are universal, but I just
uploaded all 24 players from my 91-93 and 96-98
Bulls rosters.
To access go to Features - 2K Share - Download.
Then LB over to Player DNA, Press Y and search by
Gamertag: MessenjahMatt. You'll see either 91-93
or 96-98 in the description to differentiate.
One thing I might change is to just get rid of the
facial hair all together on this one. That moustache
is a little too thin for my liking, and the larger
one I use on my 96-98 looks horrible in Black. You
decide what to do there.
UPDATE: Decided to put the Facial Hair Color back
to Dark Brown like my 96-98 Jordan. And changed
the Eyebrow back to 4 as well.
96-98
Michael Jordan Formula
Jordan CAP is up, with a photo gallery
and a couple 3D images! I did the LS/RS in images,
you'll have to have a good eye to replicate it perfectly.
As I've said before, I'm no stats guru, so feel
free the make changes as you see fit.
Not sure how many of the CAPs I'll put up like this,
it takes quite awhile to do these formulas. I'll
get this up on 2K Share (360) once the patch is
released.
(Note: You won't be able to use #23 until the patch
is out)
91-93 & 96-98 Bulls Rosters
Preview
Thumbnails for both rosters are up.
I plan on uploading them to 2K Share (360) once
the patch is released.
NBA2K10:
He Is Now Back
In his fourth game back from retirement
in 1995, and the Bulls down by 1 with 5.9 seconds
to go, MJ took the ball fullcourt and hit the jumper
over Steve Smith at the buzzer to defeat the Hawks
99-98.
NBA2K10
Where Amazing Happens
The restriction of retired numbers
in 2K10 has put a halt to my re-creation videos,
but my annual "Where Amazing Happens"
one can still go on through the magic of Photoshop.
Notably on the shorter shorts, doesn't that look
good in video game form 2K? There's a lot more motion
in this one than the previous 2, and it's very smooth
as well.
NBA2K10
Jordan CAP preview Click
Here for a look at my Jordan CAP in 2K10. If
you were able to view the cross-eyed 3D video from
2K9, you can do the same with this image to make
it 3D.
Not sure how I'm going to share my CAPs yet. The
new stick morphing makes it impossible to type directions.
I guess I can take screenshots of every section,
but that's not very accurate, if you're off by a
little on a bunch of them it could turn out totally
different.
Just
got NBA 2K10 and am extremely disappointed.
For some reason 2K has decided to remove our ability
to use retired numbers from teams. Which means no
#23 Jordan or #33 Pippen.
In order to use those numbers on the "Bulls"
you have to take them into Association/Season mode
and export the team. Problem with that is that when
you export a team with Created Players, they turn
into the default low-resolution models you see on
the bench with generic faces. So that's certainly
no solution.
It doesn't look like I'll be doing any 2K10 videos,
unless they patch in the option to use retired numbers.
Here's hoping...
NBA2K9
in 3D
NBA
2K9 like you've never seen before! Michael Jordan
drives crosscourt and converts an acrobatic layup
around the defense of the Jazz.
Don't worry, I'm not gonna start doing all my videos
in 3D. I just wanted to try this out, and I really
like how it looks. It's not perfect, but shots like
the ball bouncing around the rim really pop out.
Try watching it a couple times and focusing on different
things.
Use the drop-down menu below the video to select
your viewing method. I actually like Cross-Eyed
best, it doesn't require any 3D Glasses and it keeps
the true color. All you have to do for that is cross
your eyes until both images merge in the middle
and your vision locks onto it.
The YouTube 3D player is a bit of a resource hog,
so it might not play smoothly. The video is originally
in slow motion anyways so it shouldn't be too much
of a problem. Unclicking the HD button might make
it play smoother, while degrading the quality.
Check it out on YouTube.
And if you just want to see the smooth Cross-Eyed
effect check that out on GameTrailers.
NBA2K9:
Here Comes Mike
Got
my 360 back from RROD repair woohoo, So here's the
full version of the play in my "Where Will
Amazing Happen This Year?" video. I really
liked how it looks at full speed so I had to expand
on it and make one of my regular style videos from
it.
NBA2K9:
Where Will Amazing Happen This Year?
First
new video in 9 months! Michael Jordan flies down
the lane to jam home Pippen's missed free throw,
in this takeoff on the NBA's "Where Will Amazing
Happen This Year?" commercials.
This is not a true re-creation moment, as the play
really happened against the Blazers during the 92-93
regular season. I wasn't sure if I would even be
able to put this together so I saved some time by
using my already created Lakers instead.
I plan on making one of my regular style videos
out of this play next, with before/after shots,
because it looks fantastic at full speed. It'll
have to wait though because I suffered my very first
red ring of death today, hopefully I'll get it back
before 2K10 hits, ha.

Improving
CAP for NBA 2K10
Check
out the blog
I wrote over at Operation Sports, showcasing ways
to help improve the Create A Player feature in 2K10.
It's a wishlist of sorts, and if you're registered
over there you can chime in with your ideas as well.
NBA2K9: Flu Game
My
first NEW re-created moment for 2K9, the 1997 NBA
Finals Flu Game. I did a few edits to my Jordan
CAP to give him a tired look, mainly by raising
his Brow Center, lowering the Mouth Corners, and
closing the Eye Openess a tad. The final shot is
of course from my Where Amazing Happens video, since
I couldn't capture anything like it in game. It
does have a bit more motion in it though, and the
crowd moves as well.
As always, check it out on YouTube
and GameTrailers.
It was in fact just picked up by GameTrailers and
added to the Featured User Movies section! :)
NBA2K9: The Move
As
I said earlier, I wanted to give this one another
try as well, with the new Shotstick Advanced, so
here it is! Check it out at YouTube
and GameTrailers.
Trying to do this one really showed how improved
the Defensive AI is. In 2K8 i just ran down the
lane and got the shot, in 2K9 I had to take control
of the Lakers with another controller and try to
clear the lane as much as possible so someone didn't
come jumping in and ruining my shot ha.
It's the 1998 NBA Finals video, which of course
I recreated in 2K8, but wasn't thrilled with the
outcome so I thought I would give it another try
in 2K9. I'm not going to be re-doing all my 2K8
ones, but aside from this one I think the 1991 Finals
layup would be a good one to redo. Since we have
the advanced shot-stick to actually do it properly.
We'll see. Still trying to find a fresh new moment
to do.
